Jade is an ornamental stone often used for delicate and highly detailed carvings. The term jade is applied to two different metamorphic rocks that are made up of different silicate minerals; Nephrite and Jadeite.

Jadeite has about the same hardness as quartz while nephrite is somewhat softer.

Nephrite can be found in a creamy white form as well as in a variety of green colours whereas jadeite shows more colour variations including blue lavender-mauve pink and emerald-green colours. Of the two jadeite is rarer.

New Jade is a stone of health, wealth and longevity. It benefits the lungs, heart, thymus, immune system, kidneys and nervous system.

The image of the Buddha is based on a wandering Chinese monk, who lived centuries ago and is believed to be Maitreya, or the Buddha to come.

The statue's plump figure and benign countenance suggest contentment, magnanimity and plenitude. The Buddha is seen in different postures, each having a different significance.

These statue signify love, prosperity, safe travels, health, spirituality and happy family. Minor variations and imperfections add to the unique character of each piece.
