Amber is a natural resin which oozed out of a tree and eventually fossilised between recent times and a few hundred million years ago. The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber, where it was produced by extinct coniferous trees. Amber is not a stone, therefore it is light and warm to touch.
Amber is not a stone or crystal, it is organic matter composed mainly of botanic resins. The Ancient Greek civilizations used to refer to Amber as “Elektron” which to them meant “Sun” or “electricity”. The resin of Amber can be found in a range of colors however it is most commonly found in hues of yellow, orange, red and dark brown. The different colors of Amber (including the rare Blue and Green).
Amber is prehistoric pine resin which has fossilised over the millennia. It is much used for the manufacture of jewellery and ornamental objects. Although actually organic it is sometimes considered and used as a gemstone. This substance has been used in healing and energy work for millions of years dating back to the Middle Ages of Europe as well as Ancient Egypt and even Ancient Cretan times (2,000 B.C). Baltic Amber is known today to date back 30-60 million years ago.
